Awakening and the Outside World
You are in it. You are in the depths of deep inner work. Of ego dissolution. Of the Dark Night of the Soul. You are ‘becoming.’ So much is happening internally—mentally, physically, emotionally. But to the outside world you still have to go to work and write emails and have meetings. You still have to go to the grocery store and make sure your kids are fed. You still have to function as a working parent day-in-and-day-out. Inside your ego is battling against your true self. You are stepping into universal life force. You are crying, surrendering, finding inner courage and trusting what may come. While changing a diaper, or discussing an employee’s growth trajectory, or feeding the dog.
Life goes on. As you are falling apart on the inside and going through an intense re-birth, life in the outside world still goes on. To many people, including family members, you can’t even explain what it is that is happening. They might think you are in a funk or depressed, but in reality you are being called to grow. To transform. And to step into your true life’s path. Your life’s path that’s led by universal life force and love.
This can create what feels like a bridge between loved ones. You are on one side of the bridge hurtling yourself through the fires of inner transformation and they are on the other side of the bridge simply living their lives. And that bridge can feel miles and miles long.
That bridge can also make you feel sad and mourn the loving relationships that you once had. And how you used to talk about everything with your mom. Or go adventuring with your dad. Or have political debates with your brother. But you can’t bring yourself to open up to them about this. You don’t even know what’s happening half the time. It’s hard and sometimes indescribable. It seems that this is part of the awakening process. And luckily there are usually some people who you can talk to, and who understand, and have been there. Help will and does come in different shapes and sizes. A friend you never knew had a similar experience. A teacher you come across on the internet.
Embodying the Higher Self takes courage and it also takes total acceptance that you are changing and growing and not everyone will fully understand what journey you are on. And that’s OK. Find the people you can connect with and talk to and continue to take each day one at a time.
