Ego Dissolution
The awakening process can not be done without the dissolution of the ego. The cycle, rhythm and process of ego dissolution is different for each person. Honor your own rhythm, cycle and what the universe and your soul is calling on you to do.
The dissolution of the ego feels like dying. Because that’s precisely what is happening. The ego is dying, dissolving, shedding, so that the light of spirit can shine through.
In the trenches of this dissolution it can be extremely challenging and very dark. But that is the point. In order for the ego to relent, even just a little bit, it must be put through what feels like a pressure cooker.
When life is going well and you are happy are you going to let go of your ego? Nope. You actually cling to it more. There is no way during a peaceful time in your life that you would wake up and be like yup, today I want my ego to die.
We usually come to ego dissolution when things get hard, when there is no other way out, when we have no choice and are exhausted, and upset, and at our wits end. This is when the magic happens. This is when we surrender, we relent, we accept, we give in, we trust, and in that space, in that breath of a pause, in that small I do not know, that’s when spirit can seep in.
The universe an your soul wants to live, love and thrive through us, but it can’t while we clench so tightly to our ego’s. So how does it get us to relent. Through what can sometimes feel like deep, deep bone crushing suffering. It is in this space that as we realize the ego can no longer get us anywhere. And that we have absolutely no control and our only option is to give in. And this giving in can feel like dying. Like absolute hell. But, again, that’s where the magic happens. As we pause, let go of and totally surrender our wild minds, we are then giving space for spirit, magic, flow, the divine to flood in. We are essentially giving up our superficial made up minds, so our true Soul can shine through.
***This article was written when I was in the depths of a dark night of the soul. I have now come to see that we do not want to destroy or get rid of the ego, we just don’t want it to be in charge anymore. It’s not the best at that. We still need an ego to function as human beings, but we would just much rather have our soul/spirit/universal loving life force be our guide vs. the ego. The ego really does not like this process and does not want to give up it’s seat at the helm of the table, hence it’s battle. The ego is not inherently good or bad. It’s just a function of being a physical human being.
